Court Ordered Community Service Guidelines
The Salvation Army is an international movement and is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its mission is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
In keeping with the mission statement of The Salvation Army, The Kroc Center provides opportunities for individuals in St. Joseph County to complete court ordered community service. We see this as part of our mission of reaching out and supporting our community. The following are guidelines established to make this a meaningful experience for those needing to complete court ordered community service hours at The Salvation Army Kroc Center.
Process:
- Individuals must complete an application.
- Applicants are processed through the Indiana and Michigan sex offender database.
- The applicant will receive a phone call from the Volunteer Coordinator when cleared to start working.
- The Volunteer Coordinator will coordinate with Kroc staff and applicants to schedule work shifts. Shifts will be determined by the needs of the business and generally will include cleaning, tidying, and light maintenance work throughout different departments and areas of the facility and/or grounds.
- Individual is responsible for requesting timecard from the Welcome Desk at the beginning of each shift. Department managers must initial to approve the hours worked in their area.
- Individuals must sign in and out of the Community Service Logbook located at the Welcome Desk.
- Individuals will turn in the completed timecard to the Welcome Desk prior to leaving the building.
- Volunteer Coordinator will enter the community service hours daily.
- Once hours are completed, the Volunteer Coordinator will provide the individual with a “logged hours” report that will contain specific dates and hours logged of his/her community service.
Expectations:
- While in the building, all court ordered community service workers must adhere to our Five Core Values: Joy, Service, Excellence, Team Player, and Christlikeness. This means going about your tasks in a way which exemplifies these core values.
- You must be dressed appropriately. Appropriate clothing would include jeans, knee-length shorts, capris, (non-graphic) T-shirts & sweatshirts, and comfortable shoes. When seasonally appropriate, work may take place outdoors on the grounds of the building.
- Per Manager discretion, individuals dressed inappropriately may be sent home.
- While working you are not allowed to use your cell phone or listen to music.
- You are allowed one 15-minute break per 4-hour shift.
